SafeConvert is a Progressive Web App (PWA) — a website that browsers can install like a native app. Once installed it shows up alongside your other apps with its own icon, opens in its own window without browser tabs, and remembers where you left off. You still have to be online to convert files (uploads need our server), but the app shell itself loads instantly.
No app store. No download. No sign-up. The installation is just your browser saving an enhanced bookmark with the SafeConvert icon. You can uninstall it at any time the same way you'd remove any other app — no data left behind.
iPhone & iPad (Safari)
- Open safepdfconvert.com in Safari (not Chrome — iOS only installs from Safari).
- Tap the Share icon at the bottom (or top in iPad) — the square with an arrow pointing up.
- Scroll down in the share sheet and tap Add to Home Screen.
- Confirm the name (SafeConvert) and tap Add. The icon appears on your home screen.
Open the new SafeConvert icon — it launches in standalone mode, with no Safari chrome around it. The status bar is theme-aware (light or dark depending on your system).
Android (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Samsung Internet)
- Open safepdfconvert.com in your browser.
- Look for the Install app chip in the SafeConvert hero on the homepage — tap it. (If you don't see it, your browser may show an install prompt in the address bar or in its menu instead — "Add to Home screen" or "Install app".)
- Confirm in the prompt. The app icon is added to your home screen / app drawer.
On Android Chrome, installed PWAs get their own slot in the system's recent-apps list and can be uninstalled via long-press just like any Play Store app.
Desktop (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc on Mac/Windows/Linux/ChromeOS)
- Open safepdfconvert.com.
- Click the Install app chip on the SafeConvert hero — or click the small install icon (a monitor with a down-arrow) in the address bar.
- Confirm in the dialog. SafeConvert appears in your Applications folder (macOS), Start menu (Windows), or app launcher (Linux/ChromeOS).
The installed app opens in its own window — no tabs, no URL bar — and supports the system shortcuts you'd expect (⌘+W to close, F11 fullscreen, etc.).
What you actually get when installed
- Own icon on home screen / app drawer / Dock / Start menu.
- Standalone window — no browser chrome around the toolbar.
- Instant first paint — the service worker pre-caches CSS, JS, and the shell. Repeat opens are near-immediate.
- System-native dark mode — the theme toggle still works, and the status bar matches.
- Survives offline navigation — you can browse cached pages with no connection. File conversions still need the network.
What it is NOT
- Not from the App Store / Play Store. Apple and Google didn't review it. It's installed directly by your browser.
- Not a full offline tool. File conversions still require uploading to our server (which is the whole point — your phone can't run LibreOffice).
- Not a tracking app. No account, no analytics SDK, no push notifications without explicit opt-in. Same privacy promise as the website.
How to uninstall
- iOS: long-press the SafeConvert icon → Remove App → Delete App.
- Android: long-press the icon → App info → Uninstall (or drag to Uninstall area).
- Desktop: open SafeConvert as an app, click the three-dot menu → Uninstall SafeConvert. Or remove it from your OS's Applications list.
Uninstalling removes the icon and clears the local cache. You can reinstall anytime by visiting safepdfconvert.com again.
Privacy notes
The PWA install adds zero new permissions. The service worker that makes the site installable only caches public static assets (CSS, JS, icons) — it never touches your uploads. Files you convert still go through HTTPS to the server and are deleted right after delivery, exactly the same as on the website. See the privacy policy for details.
Ready to install?
Open safepdfconvert.com and look for the Install app chip on the homepage. Or use the platform steps above.
