Whether you're consolidating receipts for an expense report, stitching together chapters of a thesis, or sending a single client deck instead of seven attachments — merging PDFs is one of those tasks that comes up just often enough to be annoying when there is no easy way to do it.
Here is the fastest free method.
The 3-step method
- Open the merge tool — go to safepdfconvert.com/merge.
- Drop in your PDFs — drag two or more files into the upload area, or click to browse. You can pick up to 20 PDFs at a time, with a 100 MB total cap.
- Click "Merge and download" — your combined PDF downloads automatically. All originals and the merged output are deleted from the server right after.
Controlling the page order
The order of files in the upload list is the order of pages in the merged PDF. To change the order, remove a file from the list and re-add it where you want it. We're also rolling out drag-to-reorder as part of the document editing release on June 1, 2026.
Things to check before merging
- All files must be PDFs. If you have Word or images you want to include, convert them to PDF first (use the main converter for Word).
- Encrypted PDFs are not supported. Remove password protection before uploading — most PDF readers let you do this from File → Save As.
- Total upload size is 100 MB across all files. If you go over, drop the largest file or split the merge into two passes.
Will merging hurt the quality of my PDFs?
No. Page content is preserved bit-for-bit during merging — text remains selectable, images keep their resolution, and embedded fonts are kept. Merging is a structural operation: it concatenates pages, it doesn't re-render them.
What about a single combined bookmark / table of contents?
The merged PDF inherits any bookmarks already present in each source PDF, but it doesn't synthesize a new top-level table of contents. If you need that, use a desktop PDF editor after the merge — or wait for SafeConvert's document editing release.
Privacy notes
All uploads happen over HTTPS. Source PDFs and the merged result are stored in a temporary working directory only for the duration of the merge, then deleted as soon as your download is sent. We don't view, read, index, or back up your documents. See our privacy policy for the full details.
Ready to merge?
Open the PDF merge tool — drag in your files and you're 30 seconds away from a single combined PDF.
